Biography

Benjamin Schilperoort is a stage director and performer who works across the fields of opera, theatre and a range of musical genres. After studying at Cambridge University and then training as a bass-baritone at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he spent four years as an artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. Benjamin’s recent operatic roles include Walter Furst/Melcthal Guillaume Tell, the bass roles in Purcell’s Fairy Queen and King Arthur, Don Basilio Barbiere di Siviglia, Golaud Pelléas et Mélisande, Colline La bohème, Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Masetto and Il Commendatore Don Giovanni and Seneca L’Incoronazione di Poppea. He appears frequently with Les Arts Florissants, with whom his engagements as a soloist include the Lincoln Center in New York, Teatro alla Scala, The Proms, le Château de Versailles, and the Paris Philharmonie. His recording have been broadcast on France Music, BBC Radio 3 and on numerous television broadcasts around the world. Benjamin’s recent projects as stage director include Così fan tutte, a double bill of La Voix Humaine and The Telephone and a one-act musical about Lotte Lenya, and his latest projects as an associate or assistant director include The Magic Flute and Carmen Case.
